King of Soul

Sam Cooke is commonly known as the King of Soul , paving the way for the likes of Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and James Brown.

Cooke had an incredible 30 U.S. top 40 hits, including "You Send Me", "Cupid" and "Twistin' the Night Away”  between 1957 and 1964.  He was also among the first modern black performers and composers to attend to the business side of his musical career , founding both a record label and a publishing company whilst also playing an active part in the Civil Rights Movement. We flew out to California to discuss his legacy with one of his biggest fans, Rod Stewart.
